Slings / Oblique Chains
SLINGS /OBLIQUE CHAINS
By Dr.Ankith sagar and Dr. Harini
Slings (also referred to as chains and/or loops) are a functional component of the musculoskeletal system. Slings are comprised of muscles, fascia and ligaments all working together to create stability and mobility.
The cylinder depends on strength and balance from the slings to provide a stable foundation.
Slings helps to transfer force through the trunk and facilitate rotational movements.
The muscles arranged within a myofascial sling are connected via facia to produce these force vectors that assist in the transfer of load within the pelvis and lumbar spine.
APPLICATIONS: (Functional Movement Training)
- Athletic individuals for return to play and sports specific training.
- Lower back pain
- Pregnancy and Post partum
- Fascial dysfunctions
- Activation of underactive muscles
ANTERIOR OBLIQUE SLING
The external oblique and internal oblique, connecting with contralateral adductor muscles via the adductor abdominal fascia.
POSTERIOR OBLIQUE SLING
This sling system consists of the latissimus dorsi (LD), the gluteus maximus (GM), and theinter-connecting thoracolumbar fascia (TLF)
DEEP LONGITUDINAL SLING
The DLS connects the erector spinae, multifidus, thoracolumbarfacia, sacrotuberous ligament and the biceps femoris.
LATERAL SLING
The lateral sling consists of the gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, tensor fascia latae (TFL) and iliotibial band (ITB)
